How Did These Avocados Get So Dirty?

For us, adventure racing and endurance sports are not simply activities, but instead a lifestyle. Many of us live, breath, eat and sleep adventure racing every day of our lives!

Dirty Avocados is made up more than ten experienced racers from Northern California’s Bay Area and Central Valley. As teams and individuals, we compete in local and national adventure races along with various other endurance sports and expeditions.

We are women and men with mixed backgrounds and vocations, including fire-fighting, health-care, high-technology, and finance. Past accomplishments include a collegiate All-American Swimming Championship, a United States National Orienteering Championship and a qualification for the United States Adventure Racing Association National Championships.

A Look Back at 2005
2005 began with a mock adventure race that tried to break our spirit with several mechanical problems and a broken collarbone. In the face of this, we eventually completed that race!

Soon after, our first official adventure race as a team resulted in a 2nd place finish at the Lake Sonoma Adventure Race. We then fielded two teams for Explore California’s Kirkwood Adventure Race and finished 13th and 14th. The year continued with a 1st place finish at the Day & Night Challenge and 1st and 3rd place finishes at the Sea Trek Regatta.

After various other running, cycling, orienteering, and adventure races our two teams culminated the year finishing in the top ten at Explore California’s Gold Rush Adventure Race.

A Look Towards 2006
Our plans for 2006 start with snowshoe races in the Sierras. We’ll then send our teams to race in several spring and summer adventure races throughout the Western United States and Alaska, including the Cal Eco Adventure Series (the nation’s largest adventure racing series). We’ll also continue to take part in various running, cycling, and orienteering races as well as mountaineering expeditions in the United States and Europe.
